Drives like nothing else this shape. Small inside, and options were priced brutally.

Reliable by German standards, but every service and every tyre is priced as a Porsche.

- Audi Q8: A Q7 with the roof chopped for looks: same money, two fewer seats, less headroom.
- Land Rover Defender: Goes anywhere a Wrangler goes and is far nicer inside. Thirsty, and not cheap to fix.
- Lexus RX 450h+: Superb but expensive, and the plug-in version is genuinely hard to find used.
- BMW X1: The cheapest new BMW, and the most useful. Firm ride, and options inflate it fast.
